Let me share with you a checklist of things that I made that I needed to carry the first time I had to visit abroad (a Eurotrip). It definitely helps to have a starting point and I'm hoping this article can be one. To think about what all I'll need, I use a simple visualization strategy where I visualize everything from stepping out of my house to going to the airport to getting into the other country to living there to leaving. Basically, everything! Don't think it takes a lot of time. It's a small exercise that can actually save a lot of unnecessary trouble later on.
Foreign Currency
City Maps
Hotel Booking Vouchers
Addresses/Phone numbers of people you are visiting
Part III - Living
Weather specific clothing - check the weather forecast for the time of visit
Boots/Appropriate Shoes
Activity specific articles - like snorkeling kit for beaches
Special food requirements - if you are vegan or something
Sim Card/Home calling cards
First Aid Items + some basic fever/headache/stomach medicines
Part IV - Leaving
Pretty much similar to Part I. Don't forget to pack all the stuff that you bought there!
Any suggestions?
